24° Premio Cairo

The poetics of Rachele Maistrello (Vittorio Veneto, Treviso, 1986) is a form of imaginative documentation, suspended between dream and archival practice. Trained at the IUAV in Venice, the artist continued her studies in Paris and Zurich, developing a personal photographic language that often intertwines printed images, cut-outs, and installations.

In Stella Maris (2017-2019), Maistrello collects stories and perceptions from elderly residents of a nursing home, rendering them in the form of marine visions suspended in water. With Green Diamond (2019-2020) and Blue Diamond (2021-2023), she displays all her speculative skills, telling us about the Chinese acrobat Gao Yue, recruited to test special sensors, while in Black diamond (2024-2025) she transports us to empty and desolate waiting rooms and offices, haunted by a gloomy atmosphere.

In Maistrello's work, photography does not fix reality, but rather distorts and traverses it, opening up worlds where the possible takes the place of the real.
