Mattia Sinigaglia
24° Premio Cairo
The work of Mattia Sinigaglia (Castiglione delle Stiviere, Mantua, 1989), who graduated in Painting from the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice, is based on a mixed technique that draws on different materials: oil paints, wood, ceramics, iron, gold and silver leaf, wax, and glass. His production includes both works on canvas and “sculptural paintings,” characterized by the encounter between flat surfaces and three-dimensional inserts, which make the composition layered and dynamic. Each work is the result of a slow process, rooted in “listening” to the material and in the awareness of its continuous transformation. The alternation of abstract geometries and realistic elements gives rise to subjects in which the confrontation between artifice and nature, human and animal, is in constant tension. The fascination with ancient art and alchemical symbolism makes each form appear as the residue of a lost yet enduring knowledge.
