24° Premio Cairo

After studying photography at IED in Milan and Bard College in New York, Alessandro Teoldi (Milan, 1987) settled in New York, an experience that led him to reflect on the idea of home, family, and belonging. He entrusts the objects that make up his still lifes with the task of evoking the domestic sphere and a sense of intimacy.

The artist, who exhibited at Magazzino Italian Art in Cold Springs in 2020, has been exploring the expressive potential of collage for several years. After experimenting with fragments of airline travel blankets, sewn together to compose mostly monochrome figures and geometries, he has recently enriched his works with color and greater manual skill through painting and dyeing. In his new collages on linen mounted on canvas, created with oil, charcoal, ink, gouache, and pastels, alongside the influence of Conrad Marca-Relli, one can sense the echoes of Giorgio Morandi, Felice Casorati, and Mario Sironi.
