Luca Ceccherini

Landscape and the human figure are the central themes of Luca Ceccherini’s (Arezzo, 1993) paintings: interdependent elements that reflect one another and give rise to eccentrically bucolic scenes, rendered in a style that blends evanescent strokes with moments of solidity and plasticity.

As imaginative as they may be, the scenes are rooted in a concrete reservoir of experiences. Although his journey has since taken him elsewhere (he studied at th academies in Florence and Venice and lives in Turin), the artist remains connected to Carda, in the Casentino region—“a tiny village lost in the forests where I grew up. “My visions are therefore ‘actual’ ones, drawing on my memories—moments that may have seemed insignificant to me as a child but have since settled into my consciousness over the years.” Pastel, oil, graphite, acrylic, and collage are among the components of his layered mixed media techniques.

The atmosphere owes much to the light that bathes the figures: “Like the glow of a flame in the fireplace; or the sun setting on the leaves, creating a process of ‘collective gilding.’”
