Lorenzo Ermini

In his paintings, the figures—the central element of Lorenzo Ermini’s work (San Giovanni Valdarno, 1996)—are fragmented and fluid, disjointed and unstable. He constructs them by aggregating patches that combine ceaselessly: “What interests me is the process that leads the paint to organize itself temporarily on the canvas.”

In fact, color crystallizes within the figures only for the duration of the viewer’s gaze; what the viewer sees is a provisional equilibrium. After earning his Level I Diploma from the Academy of Florence, Ermini attended the two-year program at the Academy of Bologna, graduating in 2022.

A lover of medieval painting—which, in his native Tuscany, can be found almost everywhere, continually nourishing his vision—Ermini also draws inspiration from contemporary images. For some time now, he has been particularly fascinated by fresco painting, which has also influenced his work on canvas: he now uses pastels that he makes himself for each painting.
