24° Premio Cairo

Dreams, nightmares, inner visions, fantasies? The paintings of Danilo Stojanovic´ (Pula, Croatia, 1989, studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice), regularly exhibited in Italy and abroad in solo and group shows, take us to a liminal territory, where the inner self and the collective imagination touch, allowing enigmatic figures and arcane objects to emerge.

Familiar and alienating, this theory of presences moves in a suspended, liquid universe, free of fixed perspectives. The technique is oil painting on linen canvas; the color, applied in thin glazes, is permeable to material interventions that can thicken the texture and increase its plastic rendering. Predominantly dark but crossed by a recurring pair of vibrant complementary colors (reds and greens), the atmospheres evoke a metaphysical sensibility, which seems like an invitation to probe what lies beneath or beyond the visible surface. The overall effect is that of a disturbing spell, cast to raise unexpected questions.
