Jimmy Milani

Shortlist

24° Premio Cairo

There is a joyful impertinence in the works of Jimmy Milani (Savigliano, Cuneo, 1995), a loving challenge to the conventions and limits of pictorial language. Trained at the Brera Academy and now working between Milan and San Miniato, the artist breaks down the boundaries between painting and frame, integrating the latter into the creative process.

This is the case with the metal eyelashes that surround the eyes portrayed in the Flatlandia series (2023), or the human silhouettes in the diptych My heart is bursting with love (2020), which enclose two black hearts beating with desire. Furthermore, the essential compositions and childlike atmospheres of Scarabocchi (2023) are inserted into transparent plastic (PVC) cases, reminiscent of ring binder sleeves. Rather than delimiting, in Milani's poetics, frames open up spaces and possibilities, testifying to the urgency of exploring other visual and conceptual territories.
