Daniele Marzorati
24° Premio Cairo
From the plane trees in Shanghai's parks and avenues, which bear witness to French colonization in the 19th century, to industrial spaces and former nomad camps in Milan; from the deforestation and restoration of the forests of the Sardinian hinterland to the landscapes shaped by the water of the Po Valley, Daniele Marzorati (Cantù, Como, 1988, studied at NABA in Milan) observes, reproduces, and juxtaposes fragments of places or vegetation to investigate their political, economic, cultural, and social implications. The languages chosen are those of painting, drawing, frottage, and photography, which the artist alternates or combines depending on the project. In drawing, it is the use of pencil or pen that gives each work delicacy and elegance, while in photography this quality is achieved through printing on film and the use of a large-format analog camera, a Deardorff, in whose 20x25 cm negatives the artist manages to compose different shots, in an unpredictability of suggestions and results.
