Simone Gori
24° Premio Cairo
Poetic and existential, the works of Simone Gori (Florence, 1986, lives and works in Prato) explore the human condition through metaphor. Clouds are a recurring subject because, he explains, "the sky contains a true philosophy of life. Clouds are born, transform, unite, divide, and dissolve. And they are all unique." Clouds and human figures coexist in some large installations: works that, thanks to his degree in Architecture from the University of Florence, interact intensely with the space that hosts them. In his photographic elaborations, a scratch on a man's chest reveals portions of sky instead of organs (“I wanted to give the idea of ‘digging’ into the individual, of getting to his essence”). And the metaphor becomes cosmic in the abstract paintings: large mixed media works based on what he calls “chromatic primitivism,” evoking solar or lunar surfaces.
